Yellowhammer Creative is a design and print studio located in Birmingham, AL. As a small but mighty studio they specialize in creating artwork and apparel for individuals and small businesses throughout Alabama and the South. I began working at Yellowhammer Creative as a printer in their studio, managing my time between fulfilling customer orders as well as printing for their clients. I eventually took on more responsibility, managing the print shop as well designing and illustrating print material for Yellowhammer Creative’s store, along with handling designs for clients such as the Alabama Theatre, Freshwater Land Trust, and WBHM.

DESIGNING FOR SCREEN PRINTING

Since Yellowhammer Creative is a local print shop that prides itself on providing quality, hand-printed material we ensured that all of our flatstock was printed in studio. In many cases once the designs and illustrations were approved we would immediately begin preparing for the printing process. Being so hands-on throughout the process allowed us to brainstorm our design style by thinking in color layers to be printed separately to create an overall aesthetic.

One of my favorite client projects to work on was for the Alabama Theatre. Every year the theatre would host movies to the public on weekends in the summer resulting in their “Summer Series”. I got the chance to re-imagine many movie covers through the designing stages of these posters and hand-printed all for purchase at the event.
